Miriam Emverda Cook, 78, of Abilene, died Monday, February 1, 2021 in Abilene.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 3 from 6 pm until 8 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Thursday, February 4, at Abilene Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 2542 E. Overland Trail, Abilene, TX 79601, with Pastor Joel Navarro officiating. Burial will follow at 2 pm at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 W. Lake Road.
Miriam was born January 1, 1943 in Liloan, Leyte, Philippines to Simplicio Emverda and Demetria Jongko. She was married to Charles Festejo, who preceded her in death, and then to Rayburn Cook, who also preceded her in death.
She worked as a piano teacher and worked various housekeeping jobs. She was very involved in church activities. Miriam was involved in volunteer organizations at Rosepark Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.
Miriam is survived by her brother, Levi Emverda; sister, Elizabeth Emverda Guinto; sister, Esther Emverda DeVera; sister, Sarah Emverda Valdez, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the doctors in the ICU Department at Hendrick Medical Center who took care of her, The Hamil Family Funeral Home, Chief Paul and Norma Washinsky, Jonabel James, Glenda Ward, Kimberly Chiu, Genia Legaspi, Rowena and Ramil Pablico, Debbie McClarty, Pastor Joel Navarro, Miriam’s church family at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, and her Abilene group of friends.
