Minnie Alice Tippen, 81, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 in Abilene. Graveside services will be on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Elmwood Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Dr. Phil Christopher will officiate.
On June 21, 1925, Minnie Alice was born the daughter of James W. and Ruby (Teaff) Mayfield in Merkel, Texas. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1942 and Hardin Simmons University in 1946. She was the president of the Hardin Simmons Cowgirls. After graduating from Hardin Simmons, she was the registrar of Abilene High School from 1946 to 1950. In 1950 she married Forrest Wade (Pete) Tippen of Abilene. Their early married years were spent in Arlington, Virginia and Ann Arbor, Michigan before returning to Abilene. She is a 50 year member of Abilene Woman's Club and former member of 20th Century Study Clubs. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Abilene and was a teacher in the 3rd grade Sunday school class at First Baptist for many years.
Minnie Alice is survived by her husband of 56 years, Forrest Wade Tippen of Abilene; two sons, Peter Tippen and his wife Cathy of Dallas, Texas, Philip Tippen and his wife Pam of Abilene; one daughter Susan Montgomery and her husband Robert of Albany, Texas; seven grandchildren, Will Tippen and his wife Kaely of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Jay Tippen and his fiancé Carrie Helms of Abilene, Marshall, Brendan and Ellie Tippen of Dallas, and Wade and Rob Montgomery of Albany; one sister, Jimmie Everts of San Marcos, Texas; sister-in-laws, Elsie Tippen, wife of the late Bill Tippen of Abilene, and Sue McCann, wife of the late Gordon McCann of Lometa, Texas; and numerous, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The Tippen family requests that in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to the donor's favorite charity.
