Mildred Elizabeth Parsons Sayre, lovingly known as Millie, went to be with her Lord and Savior and husband Frank on November 25th, 2015. Millie was preceded in death by her husband Frank Nuell Sayre in 2008 and a granddaughter, Tiffany Elizabeth Terrell, in 1967. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Riley; her sons Frank Sayre and Jim Sayre; Sharon’s son Scott Terrell and daughter Amy Terrell Gomez; Frank’s children Arthur and Julia Sayre; Jim’s children Brittany Sayre Smith and Austin Sayre; great grandchildren Alexandra Terrell Russell, Symantha Terrell, and Sayre Smith; and great-great granddaughter Brooklynn Elizabeth Conger.
Millie was born May 24, 1924 to Annie and Levada Parsons in Tampa, Florida. Millie met her future husband, Frank Sayre, while he was stationed in Tampa in WWII.
Millie and Frank lived in Eastland, Texas for many years where she and her family were active in the First Baptist Church. She was involved in many civic activities in Eastland.
After rearing her children, Millie started a very active and successful career as one of the first female petroleum “landmen” working throughout Central and West Texas.
They moved to Abilene in 2000 to be close to their children. They joined Wylie Baptist Church and began a wonderful association that Millie treasured as she continued her lifelong Christian journey.
Millie was a noted artist. She was president of the Texas Porcelain Teachers Association from 2012-2014. Her china painting won several first places at the State Fair of Texas and West Texas Fair. Her art involved china painting, oils, acrylics, and watercolors. She loved to teach and many porcelain artists learned much from her classes. Millie was an inspiration to her family and her friends. She loved people and people loved her. She, her generous spirit, and lovely smile will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 27, at Wylie Baptist Church with Rev. Donny Harbers officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
