Mildred Elizabeth (Betty) Hill, 94, of Abilene passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014. Visitation will be Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside celebration of her life at Elmwood Memorial Park, Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11:00 am under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Betty was born on December 10, 1919, in Knoxville, Tennessee to James and Nell Loveless. She married Kenneth Hill in 1939 and moved to Texas, where she and Kenneth lived for their 69 years of marriage. Betty graduated from Hardin-Simmons University, Summa Cum Laude in 1952 and received her Master of Science degree in Mathematics from Texas Tech University. She taught math in
the public schools in Littlefield, Lubbock, and Abilene. She spent the final years of her career as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Hardin-Simmons University. Betty was known and loved throughout the Abilene community for her amazing skills as a seamstress. Thanks to her planning and organizational skills, she and Kenneth travelled the world on more than twenty-five cruises and tours. She was a member of the Majestic Sounds and the Sarah Class at First Baptist Church of Abilene.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Sarah and husband, Rob Mulkey, Susan and husband, Paul Stuerzenberger; granddaughters, Emily and husband Matt Butler; Megan and husband, Geoff Whitley; grandson, Zack and wife, Shannon Mulkey; great-grandchildren who called her GG – Caleb, Gwyneth, Faelyn, Sawyer, Annaliese, Evelyn, Juliette, and Landon; sister, Evelyn and husband, David Fender.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many.
The family has requested that memorials be made to donor’s favorite charity.
