John Michael “Mike” Couch, passed away on April 25, 2021 in Abilene Texas.
Mike Couch was born in Abilene, TX to Edward “Buxy” Winston Couch and Kathryn Agnes Brady on December 31, 1940. He attended St. Joseph’s Academy from the 1st grade through the 12th with perfect attendance, graduating in 1959. Mike married Trinell Carmack of Abilene spending the next 61 years together. Mike lived in Abilene his whole life where he raised his family and attended church. Mike worked as an Insurance Adjuster for St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company for 36 years and worked as a claims adjuster for various independent insurance companies following major storm events. After retiring in 2000, he enjoyed traveling, watching professional sports and old westerns, fishing, spending time at the lake house and volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul thrift store. Mike was a dedicated husband, loving father and “Pa” to his grandchildren. All the grandkids could expect a big smile and a piece of bubble gum from his front shirt pocket every time they saw each other. Mike was a true and good friend to everyone he met, sharing his quick-wit and dry sense of humor.
Mike was proceeded in death by his parents, Edward and Kathryn, sister Mary Elizabeth Couch, brother, Fr. Edward “Buxy” Winston Jr. Couch, O.M.I. and his grandson, Cory Parker Couch.
Mike is survived by his wife, Trinell Couch, their three children. Mishelle and husband Leland Godbee of Abilene, Shannon and wife Kelly Couch of Abilene and Cheryl and husband Mark Menditto of New Braunfels. Mike is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Heaton of Waxahachie, Joseph Menditto of San Antonio, Anna Menditto Perez and husband Ryan, David Purcell and his great granddaughter, Eva Elizabeth Perez all of San Antonio and one nephew, Eddie Garcia of San Benito.
Pallbearers will be Michael Heaton, Joseph Menditto, David Purcell, Eddie Garcia, Leland Godbee and Mark Menditto.
Visitation Services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Prayer Service and Rosary will follow visitation at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Road at 11:00 am on Thursday morning, April 29 with Monsignor Fred Nawarskas officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene TX.
In leu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Store in Mike’s honor. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Hendrick ICU South and to Hendrick Hospice Care.
