Mike R. Carnes, age 49, of Abilene, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at a local hospital. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 8th, at 2 p.m. at Lytle South Baptist Church in Abilene with Rev. Rodney Watson officiating and Dennis Cutbirth leading music. Burial will follow in the Etheredge Family Cemetery in Fisher County under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, October 7th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX.
Michael Ray Carnes was born on August 31, 1956 in York, Nebraska to parents Willard Ward and Marion Smith Ward. Mike moved from Nebraska to Abilene in 1966. He graduated from Cooper High School and attended West Texas State in Canyon, Texas. He married Pam Etheredge in Lueders, Texas on May 23, 1981. Mike was a carpenter and cabinetmaker by trade. He was owner and operated of Advanced Cabinets here in Abilene. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Willard Ward; his step-father, Carl Carnes; a brother, Bill Carnes; and father-in-law, Don Etheredge.
Mike is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Pam Etheredge Carnes, of Abilene; two sons: Jeremy Carnes and wife, Sharla, of Abilene; and Chris Beard, of Amarillo. Also his mother, Marion Smith Toon, of Nebraska; a brother, Kevin John Carnes and wife, Charlene, of Arizona; a brother-in-law, Kirk Etheredge; a sister, Jeanne and husband, Dale Yerion; a sister-in-law, Sharon and husband, Dennis Cutbirth; and two grandchildren: Zach and Breanna. Also six nieces: Courtney and husband, Dustin Williams, Amanda Cutbirth, Taylor Cutbirth, Jessica Fields, Abbie Carnes, and Mia Carnes.
