Michael Lee "Mike" O'Brien, 41, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012 from an ATV accident near Basin, Montana. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Burkett Cemetery in Burkett, Texas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Mike was born February 5, 1971 in Abilene, Texas to Michael and Johnna (Grant) O'Brien. He was a graduate of Abilene High School and Texas State Technical College as an Emergency Technician. He was an EMS Instructor at the University of Montana in Missoula.
During his life in Montana, Mike worked as a Paramedic and teacher for St. Peters, Boulder and Eagle Ambulance. He was a police officer for the East Helena and Boulder Police Departments and also volunteered as a firefighter. Mike left an impact on more lives than we can realize. He spent his whole adult life serving others as a policeman, paramedic and fireman. He will also be remembered for helping friends and mentoring peers and co-workers.
Mike is survived by his parents, Pat and Johnna O'Brien of Abilene; his sister, Jennifer Medford and husband Keith of Corinth; two aunts, Trudy Hatton and husband Ray of Cordova, TN, and Carolyn Teten and husband Jerry of Abilene; grandmother, Mary O'Brien of Abilene; nephew, Tyler Medford and niece, Morgan Medford both of Corinth. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Samson.
