Merl Slough, 84, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2006 in Abilene. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2006 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Eula, with Rev. Larry Adams officiating. Burial will follow at the Eula Cemetery.
Merl was born September 8, 1921 in Oplin, Texas to Nathan Slough and Nora Pentecost Slough. He graduated from Eola High School and attended Draughn's Business College. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Merl married Helen Brock on December 23, 1951. He was employed by Harry Campbell Road Construction until joining his wife in the family owned business, Slough Printing Company, which relocated to Mockingbird Lane in the mid-1960s. In 1982, Merl and Helen sold the printing business and retired. Mr. Slough was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eula, Texas.
Mr. Slough was preceded in death by both of his parents, and his brother, Jerry Slough. He is survived by his wife, Helen Slough; one son, Larry Slough and his wife Kim; one daughter, Merlene Flournoy and her husband Ted, all of Abilene; two brothers, Presley Slough of Seattle, Washington and Eddie Slough of San Angelo, Texas; one sister, Dreda Jacoby of Eola, Texas; five grandchildren, Brandon and Bryan Flournoy, Stefani Burkholder, Katy and Amy Slough; and one great granddaughter, Kayleigh Flournoy.
