Melvin C. Lindsey 86, of Abilene, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018 in Abilene. No Services have been scheduled at this time and the family urges family and friends to leave online condolences at www.hamilfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Melvin was born in Hereford, TX to Chester Lee and Eula May Lindsey on November 19, 1931. He graduated from Spur, Texas High School in 1950. He attended Howard Payne University and earned a degree in Mathematics and a Masters degree in Administrative Education and earned All American honors in football. He was an educator and coach for many years in Abilene and touched many lives in a positive way. Melvin was also a member of the Southwest Basketball Officials Association and called games in the Abilene area for many years. He also worked as a land man for Atlantic Richfield. He was married to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Bobby Jo Walsworth, for 67 years.
Melvin was an avid golfer and loved playing with his friends and family. He played golf for over 60 years. Always the football coach, he loved attending high school football games and was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. He was a man of strong faith and a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. He also was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Melvin was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.
Melvin is survived by his wife Bobbie Jo Lindsey of Abilene. One son; Britt Lindsey and wife Leslie, of Newark, Ohio. One daughter; Tempie Lindsey of Dallas, Texas. Three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meals on Wheels, 717 N. 10th Street, Abilene, Texas 79601. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
