Melvin Douglas Koonsman

Melvin Douglas "Doug" Koonsman, 43, of Abilene, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at a local hospital. Funeral services, with Rev. David Cason officiating, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in the Potosi Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Friday in the chapel at the funeral home. December 8, 1964, Doug was born in Abilene, Texas to Derwood and Minnie (Burnham) Koonsman. Abilene has been Doug's home all of his life. He graduated from Cooper High School. Doug married Angie Holland in Abilene on August 15, 1987. He was employed by the City of Abilene. Doug was a member of Broadview Baptist Church. Doug's parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Angie, and his two children, Kayla and Kyle Koonsman; brothers and sisters: Lana Rutherford, of Abilene, Leann Fisher, also of Abilene, Mike Koonsman, of Oklahoma, Linda Jones, also of Oklahoma, and Lisa Ramos, of Abilene. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the "Doug Koonsman Family Fund" in care of Broadview Baptist Church, 2500 South 27th Street, Abilene, Texas 79605.
