Melmadoris Bantau Surface, 89, of Abilene, died Wednesday, June 11 at a local hospital. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, June 13 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will be at 10:00 am Saturday at Elmwood Memorial Park, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the First Central Presbyterian Church. Dr. Cliff Stewart and Rev. Janice Six will officiate.
Melmadoris was born the daughter of the late Oliver Morse Bantau and Linnie Etta (Taylor) on March 25, 1919 in Weatherford, Texas. She married Eugene Howard Surface in Abilene, Texas on September 21, 1952. He preceded her in death June 23, 1967. Melmadoris was a longtime member of the First Central Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by one son, Mark Surface and his wife Ruth Ann, of Lubbock; brother, Morse Bantau and his wife Lillian, of Fort Worth; sister, Eulalia Henderson and her husband Grady, of Abilene; nephew, Russell Bantau and his wife Linda of Argyle, Texas; niece, Karen Wharton and her husband James, of Essex, Vermont; niece Diana Bailey and her husband Jimmy, of Abilene; great-niece, Kristi Hamilton and her husband Daniel, of Tucson, Arizona; great nephew, Brandon Bantau and his wife Monique of Rancho Cucamonga, California; sister-in-law, Dorthy Bantau, of Fort Worth, Texas; sister-in-law, Barbara Willis Robinson, of Abilene; cousin, Joy Howell and her husband Wilson, of Abilene.
