Melba Hay, 80, of Hawley went to be with her Lord on Monday, November 26, 2012, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Born in Truby, Jones County, Texas on March 21, 1932, Melba was the daughter of Dixie (Northum) and Warren Hudson. She was a lifelong resident of Jones County where she attended public schools and married Reagan Hay. After rearing her family, she pursued further education, receiving her diploma from American Commercial College. Melba was bookkeeper for the Anson Healthcare Center in Anson for ten years. She was a charter member of Clearfork Baptist Church in Hawley.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Reagan Hay in 2003; her parents; two brothers, Don Hudson and Jim Hudson; and sister, Jo Fraser.
Melba is survived by her children, Phil Hay and wife Gaye of Hawley; Connie Klassen and husband Roger of Hawley; Kathy Spitler and husband Allan of Abilene. Also surviving "Granny" are her eight grandchildren, Zack Hay, Seth Hay, Michelle Cudd, Cherrelle Womack, Taryn Klassen, Lindsay Klassen, Kara Galinak, Clint Powell and ten great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Judy Burrow of Sweetwater; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 30, at Clearfork Baptist Church in Hawley with Dr. Larry Tarver officiating. Interment will follow in Midway Cemetery near Hodges in Jones County, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
