Meagan Metts, 17, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 near Mertzon, Texas in an automobile accident.
Born in Abilene, Texas on May 7, 1998, Meagan attended schools in both Wylie ISD and Eula ISD. She was an accomplished equestrian rider and a member of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Posse, West Texas Barrel Racing Association and National Barrel Horse Association, competing in popular rodeo events including the Western Heritage Classic’s matched horse races. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Abilene.
Common descriptions of Meagan’s personality and traits which were recently shared on her Facebook Page include - “a sweet girl”, “beautiful”, “my friend”, “a sweetheart”, “a vibrant young lady”, “an amazing horse rider”, and “a beautiful soul”. Her sister’s post summed it all up so well - “Heaven gained a beautiful angel today.”
She was preceded in death by her father, Cary Alan Metts, on August 25, 2005.
Meagan is survived by her mother Judy Vawter, brother Marshall Alan Metts, and sister Rebecca Lynn Metts, all of Abilene, and boyfriend John Will White of Clyde. Survivors also include her paternal grandparents, Bettie Metts of Abilene, and Woody Metts of Stephenville, TX; maternal grandparents, Linda and Earl Pippin of Abilene; two aunts, Joyce Cummins and John, and De De Morris and Brent, all of Abilene; and three uncles, Steven Pippin of Abilene, Casey Metts of Abilene, and Corey Metts and Mariam of Granbury, TX.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28 at Faith Baptist Church, 2300 South 20th Street in Abilene, with Rev. Steven Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscola Cemetery under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 27 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Brazell, Tallon Pratt, Austin Williams, Cody Aaron, John Curtis and Dakota Roysdon.
