Mavah Adeline Abernethy Lawrence, a 58-year resident of Abilene, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2010.
Mavah was born May 26, 1915, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Edward A. Abernethy, Sr., M.D. and Emma Pennington Abernethy. She grew up in Altus, OK, where she graduated from Altus High School in 1932. She graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with both Bachelors and Masters degrees. She married Richard B. Lawrence, Jr. on March 11, 1937. Their only son, Richard B. Lawrence, III, was born February 22, 1948. The family moved to Abilene in 1951. Mavah lived in the same home from 1952 until shortly before her death. She was a lifelong homemaker.
Mavah is survived by her son, Richard B. Lawrence, III, M.D., her daughter-in-law, Patricia M. Lawrence, her grandson, Jeremy N. Lawrence and his wife Kimberly, and four great-grandchildren, her granddaughter, Hilary D. Lawrence, her brother, Edward A. Abernethy, Jr., D.D.S., her nephew, Edward A. Abernethy, III, M.D., and his wife Anne, her nephew, Richard Abernethy, and numerous friends.
The family wishes to express Special Thanks to Hendrick Hospice Care Inpatient Unit, and Special Caregivers Dorothy, Lillie Belle, and Terri.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 in Altus City Cemetery, Altus, Oklahoma.
