Marylu Megginson, 87, died Tuesday, December 15, 2015 in Abilene, Texas.
The daughter of Ina (Ponder) and Jack Clement, Marylu was born on August 25, 1928 in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Anson High School in 1945, and Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1948.
Marylu was a Registered Nurse for over 50 years. She began her nursing career working at Hendrick Memorial Hospital, later working in the offices of several Abilene doctors, including Dr. B. J. Estes, Dr. Andrew Dillard, Dr. Donald McDonald, and Dr. Marshall Turnbull. The last 22 years of her career as a nurse were with the Abilene Independent School District. She worked on most all of the campuses in AISD, but her personal favorites were the Elementary School campuses. She retired from AISD.
She was a former, longtime member of University Baptist Church in Abilene. Since 1998, she had been a member of First Baptist Church, Abilene where she became a member of the Fellowship Class. Marylu was also a member of the Retired Teachers Associations, American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), and Key City Coin Club. She was an avid traveler, having traveled many times with Bilbrey Tours.
Marylu was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Megginson, on June 20, 2015; her parents; and one brother, Billy Clement.
Survivors include her two sons, Arthur “Chico” Megginson of Abilene, and David Megginson and wife Bronwyn of Victoria, Minnesota; one daughter, Debbie Sherman of Abilene; seven grandchildren, Sarah Grimes, Jonathan Megginson, James Megginson, Meredith Sherman, Monica Sherman, Taylor Megginson and Parker Megginson; and one great-granddaughter, Joselyn Danielle Grimes.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 18, at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Abilene with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating, assisted by Rev. Palmer McCown. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 17, at the funeral home.
