Marylou Levrets, 83, of Abilene, Texas passed away on May 21, 2017 in her home at Lyndale Abilene. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A graveside service will be Thursday, May 25, 2015 at 9:30 am in Drummond Cemetery, View, TX. A memorial service will be Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11:00 am in First Baptist Church Chapel, Abilene, TX with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating.
Marylou was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Floyd and Irene Knight on July 12, 1933. She grew up in Abilene, TX and graduated from Abilene High School in 1951. She earned her Associate degree from Connors College in Commerce, Oklahoma. She married Fred Levrets on June 7, 1951 in Abilene and served as a pastor’s wife in Texas and Oklahoma before spending almost 30 years serving with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board in Nigeria and other West African countries. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Abilene, TX.
Marylou was active in women’s work throughout West Africa and the Abilene Community. She, along with Fred, received the Jesse C. Fletcher Award for distinguished Service in Missions from HSU Logsdon School of Theology April 21, 2006. People worldwide will remember Marylou’s love and care for all people. She leaves a legacy of unwavering faith in God and deep devotion to family, friends and her special dog, Mila.
Marylou was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Harrell Knight, two sons, Scott Levrets and Stephen Levrets, and husband Fred.
She is survived by daughter, Susan (Bobby) Walker, grandchildren: Clay (Nichole) Walker and great-grandchildren Colin, Tyler, Emily and Logan; Ashlee (Jeremy) Hall and great-grandchildren Keely and Brody; daughter, Jan Levrets Crumpton, grandchildren: Jeron Powell, Johanna (Jason) Weltzin and great-grandchildren Jones and Jane, and Jacob Powell; son Stan (Judy) Levrets; grandchildren: Kristin (Clay) Fulghum and great-grandchildren Leighton, Amelia and Piper; Blake (Melissa) Levrets and great-grandchildren Emery and Max; Bryan (Rachel) Levrets and great-grandchildren Boone and Holland. She is also survived by sister, Charlotte Roy; Brothers-In-Law, Monroe (Joyce) Levrets and Tim (Kathy) Levrets; Sisters-In Law, Geri (Levrets) Conley and Carolyn Knight, and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be: Grandsons, Blake Levrets, Bryan Levrets, Clay Fulghum, Clay Walker, Jason Weltzin, Jeremy Hall and Nephews, Barry Roy and Chuck Roy. Members of the Priscilla Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
