Inurnment will follow the memorial service at the columbarium at the Episcopal church. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
March 25, 1925, Mary was born the daughter of Fielden Hale Lundy and Ruth Worth (Phipps) Lundy in Graham, Texas where she grew up and graduated from Graham High School. In 1945, Mary Ruth married Billy Clarence Ray, who preceded her in death November 11, 1995. Abilene was Mary's home for most of her adult life. She was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church.
For many years, Mary was a fixture at the Abilene Country Club golf course, and played every chance she got. Through her golfing and service at one time as the President of the Women's Golf Association, she made many life long friends whose company she greatly enjoyed. In later years, playing bridge took the place of golf; and after a recent move to Wesley Court, she made many new friends.
Preceding Mary death were her parents and her husband. She is survived by two daughters, Paula Jane Ray and Ruth Ann Choate and her husband Tom, of Abilene; one brother, Maurice Lundy of Denton, Texas; two grandchildren, Christopher Choate and his wife Jill of Durango, Colorado, and Matthew Choate and his wife Kyle of Fort Worth, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Sam and Claire Choate, and Gage and Rance Choate. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent in honor of Mary Ruth Ray to: Disability Resources, Inc., P.O. Box 1880, Abilene, Texas 79604.
