Mary Long O'Connor, 86, was born on December 17, 1938 at 825 Butternut Street Abilene, Texas.
Mom died on March 24, 2025 (Dads Birthday) at her home in Abilene, Texas.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John Joseph O'Connor, U.S.A.F Retired; son Marshall Clay; parents Clay Long and Corene Carr Long; brothers Herman Long, Joe Long and sister in law Virginia Long.
Mom is survived by her children Jeff O'Connor (Karen) of Tracy, CA., Connie Harris (Jim) of Glens Falls, N.Y. and Joe O'Connor (I lost my best friend today) of the home; Grand children Mindy Hegman, Amanda Nash, Jamie Hafner, Justin O'Connor, Lindsay Harris and Christian O'Connor. Great grandchildren Christopher Hafner, Taya Payan, Arianna Thompson, Kaylee Herald, Charlize Hegman, Liliana Murray and Rowan Jankowski.
Mom is also survived by her dear sister Clayrene Long of Abilene, Texas and dear sister-in-law Joleta Harris of San Angelo, Texas.
Also a special Thank You to Mom's and Joe's special friends John and Gail Keker, Jena Garcia and Marisol Gutierrez.
Mom grew up at 1802 Oak Street and attended Travis Elementary, South Junior High and Abilene High School.
Mom was baptized at Temple Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas.
As a teenager Mom worked at the Paramount Theater.
In 1959 Mom met the love of her life, airmen John Joseph O'Connor of New Jersey at the Roller Rink on Shelton Street.
Mom and Dad married on May 4, 1959 and celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on May 4, 2006. Dad passed away on July 8, 2006 in Grapevine, Texas.
Mom and Dad were stationed at Dyess A.F.B, TX, Sheppard A.F.B, TX, Tinker A.F.B., OK, Charleston A.F.B., S.C., McGuire A.F.B., N.J. and Altus A.F.B., OK
After retiring from the Air Force, Mom and Dad both worked for New York Air and Continental Airlines
Mom and Dad lived in New Jersey, Oklahoma, South Carolina, New York, California, Florida, Kingwood, Texas and Grapevine, Texas.
After retiring from the Airline industry, Mom and Dad retired to Daytona Beach, Florida where they enjoyed long walks on the beach and picking up shells.
Mom and Dad loved us unconditionally, and it was a blessing to have them as our parents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday April 7, 2025 at 10:30 A.M. at Dallas - Ft. Worth National Cemetery with Bruce Mercer, Gentiva Hospice Chaplain of South Side Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Dallas - Ft. Worth National Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road Abilene, Texas
The children of Mary O'Connor Welcome Friends, Neighbors, Acquaintances, the Medical Community and Family to Mom's home, 3910 Ridgway Road Abilene, Texas for Refreshments and Fellowship on Saturday April 5, 2025 from 1 P.M. until we run out of stories.
