Mary Helen Mulkey, 87, died January 1, 2010, in Abilene. She was born March 11, 1922, in Greenwood, South Carolina, the daughter of Robert and Lila Wilson. Helen graduated from Greenwood High School in 1938 and married George Marlowe Mulkey on July 21, 1940. In 1954, Helen and George moved with their family of five children to Abilene, where they were active members of Crescent Heights Baptist Church. For many years, Helen was a childcare worker in the church daycare program. George preceded her in death in 1987. Survivors include children, Jerry (Loyce) Mulkey, Linda (Vic) Staelens, Robert (Sarah) Mulkey, Richard (Debi) Mulkey, and Mike (Tammy) Mulkey; grandchildren, Steven Mulkey, Michael Staelens, Kevin (Nikkie) Mulkey, Zack (Shannon) Mulkey, Melissa (Daniel) McCormack, Ashley Neihardt, Jessica Neihardt, Georgia Mulkey, and Laurel Mulkey; great-grandchildren, Caleb Mulkey, Ezra Mulkey, Davan Mulkey, and Sawyer Mulkey; and special friends Mary and Val Flores, Gina Bunker, and Patricia Welch and family. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, in Elmwood Memorial Park. A memorial service celebrating Helen's life will follow at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene with Rev. Charles Love officiating. Viewing will be from 12 noon until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory St., Abilene, TX 79601.
