Mary Jean Henderson

Mary Jean Henderson, 91, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023 in Abilene. She was born August 16, 1931 in Douglas County, KS to George and Alice (Keller) Smith.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 15 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 16 at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 US Hwy 277 South.

Mary worked at Dyess Air Force Base in the late 1950s until she met and married Burchel Henderson in June 1958. She then worked as a secretary for AISD schools for 33 years until her retirement. Mary served as the church secretary at North 5th and Grape Church of Christ, where she and Burchel were members. Mary was a faithful and loving wife, mother, and friend. She lived a life of service to her Lord and her family. She loved to bake and was known for her delicious cookies.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Mary Jean is survived by her son Steve Henderson, daughter Kathryn Armstrong and husband Mark, grandson Blake Armstrong, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels.
