Mary Lee Haynes

Mary Lee Haynes, 68, passed away on October 28, 2018 in Abilene Texas. Memorial services will be held 10:00am, Thursday November 8th, 2018 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Baird officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Mary was born in Memphis Texas to Imogene and LD Messer on October 30th, 1949. She was raised by Imogene and Hoot Hill. She attended Sunrise, James Bowie, Caprock High School and Amarillo College. She married Leroy Haynes, Jr. on October 22, 1992 in Abilene, Texas. Mary worked in retail with Montgomery Wards for over 20 years and with Lowe's Store #138. She also worked Home Health Care in the Big Country for 3 years. She was heavily involved with veterans' issues while in Abilene. She was a life member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 6873. She served as their President from 2011 to 2012. She was also a member The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #57. She served several years as the Unit President. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and son Rodrick Martin. Mary is survived by husband Leroy, son Robert Martin of Abilene Texas; Sisters Vandy Comtios of Seagoville Texas, Renee Welling and husband Frank of Ferris Texas; brother Tracy Hill of Amarillo Texas and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to given to the American Cancer Society.
