Mary Ann Elder Mara

Mary Ann Mara, 77, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. The daughter of Josie (Clemons) and J.W. Elder, Sr., Mary Ann was born on December 22, 1935 in Valley Mills, Texas, and graduated from Ranger High School in 1954. She was a homemaker, having married Bob Mara on November 28, 1953 in Ranger, Texas. She was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church in Abilene. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, John William Elder, Billy Ray Elder, James Edwin Elder, Sammy Lee Elder, and Dean Elder. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Bob Mara of Abilene; daughters Twanna Cooksey and husband Larry of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Talena Mara of Garden Grove, California; two grandchildren, Amberlee Cordeiro and husband Guy of Grand Junction, Colorado and Arlenda Newsom and husband Brad of Frederick, Colorado; and four great-grandchildren, Kyle Lemley, Cade Cordeiro, Kinley Newsom and Kaitlyn Newsom. Funeral service will be at 10:00AM on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Mike Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30PM in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger, Texas. Visitation will be at The Hamil Family Funeral Home on Friday, August 9, 2013, from 5:00—7:00PM.
