Mary Eda Childress

Mary Eda Page Childress 95, of Abilene, passed from this life on Monday, April 19, 2021 in Abilene.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday April 22, 2021 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2021 at Elmwood Memorial Park with Chris McCurley, officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Mary was born February 13, 1926 in Eastland, Texas to Karl and Daisy Page.

Mary graduated from Eastland High School in 1942.  She also graduated from North Texas State Teachers College in 1945. After graduating, she worked in the Court of Civil appeals in Eastland, TX, and Farmers and Merchants National Bank in Abilene.

She married Robert Childress on June 5, 1947. They had two children, Dan Childress and Barbara (Childress) Dunn.

She and Robert helped establish Baker Heights Church of Christ and later helped establish Oldham Lane Church of Christ where she was still a member.  She taught children's Bible classes for many years.

She was also a member of the Harmony Club of Abilene for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert, her parents, brother William Page, and sister Barbara Page.

She is survived by son Dan Childress and wife JoAnne of Zephyr, TX; daughter Barbara Dunn & husband Eddie of Abilene; two granddaughters, April Dunn and Ashley Carroll and husband Spencer, and one great grandson, Greyson Carroll.

Family suggest memorial be made to the Christian Service Center, Meals on Wheels, or the donor’s favorite charity.
