Mary Ester Catalina, 91, died Thursday, March 9, 2017.
The daughter of William and Mary Arminda Mullinix Moore, Mary was born on March 11, 1925 in Hidalgo County, Texas. In 1942 she married John Joseph Catalina in Yuma, Arizona. God granted them 73 wonderful years of marriage.
Mary, who was also known as “Mim”, enjoyed working in the family citrus fruit business in the Rio Grande Valley. Mary and her husband were well-known for their sweet tasting grapefruit, oranges, ponderosa lemons and avocados. She also loved cooking, sewing, quilting and loved helping others at La Feria Church of Christ. Our greatest “Mim” memories are her going to the beach with us and cooking her famous sandtarts and snickerdoodles.
After moving to Abilene in August of 2007, Mary was a member of University Church of Christ, The Red Hat Ladies of Christian Village and loved being a part of the Ladies Quilting Group.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Joseph Catalina; her parents and seventeen siblings.
Mary is survived by her son, David Catalina and wife Marilyn of Abilene; sister, Lola Beth Pinson of Weslaco, Texas; four grandchildren, Stacy Christopher and husband Michael, Missy Hair, Julie McDonald and husband Jon and Lindy Bauer and seven great-grandchildren, Dustin, Wyatt, Zachary, Harrison, Shelby Kate, Xavier and Zuri.
