Cathy Casey

April 30, 1962 — June 6, 2024

Mary Cathryn Casey, 62, of Abilene, passed away on June 6, 2024, in Abilene.  

 

Cathy was born in Warner Robbins, GA to John DeBerry Sr. and Joanne DeBerry on April 30, 1962.   A graduate of Cooper High School in 1980, and daughter of an air force veteran, Cathy spent time in her childhood at various locations including Newfoundland, 

Florida, Nevada, and Germany before finally settling down in Abilene. At Cooper High School, Cathy was a member of the band and a member of the Cougarettes.  She was also a member of the dance team at Texas Tech University.

 

She married her high school sweetheart Terry Casey on March 19,1982 in Abilene TX after they started dating at 16. Cathy loved to read, loved to spend her time at their lake house and travel with her husband Terry. She also loved traveling to watch her children and grandchildren participate in their various sports and activities.  Cathy and Terry were active in various business ventures, including starting Down to Earth Nursery.  Terry and Cathy also were responsible for founding the Santa Stop raising thousands of dollars for Head for the Cure.

 

Cathy earned a vocational nursing degree from Hendricks School of Nursing, and an associate degree in nursing from Angelo State University, a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree and a Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis on Leadership in Health Care Systems from Grand Canyon University. 

 

She worked as the Administrative Director of Texas Midwest Surgery Center- Hendricks for the past 4 four years and considered everyone she worked with part of her family. Prior, she was the Director of the Surgery Center in Brownwood for Hendrick. She worked in the OR as a RN and for Dr. Stoebner as a nurse at Orthopedic Associates of Abilene. She also worked as a nurse for Dr. Wehmeyer and worked on the floor at Hendrick Medical center early in her career.

 

Through her career and following of her children and grandchildren around watching their various activities, Cathy made thousands of friends.

 

Cathy was preceded in death by her father John DeBerry Sr., her brother John DeBerry Jr., her daughter Jennifer Casey Lively, and nephew Christopher Ray Parker.  

 

Cathy is survived by her husband Terry Casey, her son Trevor and Rachel Casey, her son Hank and Katie Casey, her son-in-law Chase Lively, her sister Becky and Scott Hudson, her sister Brenda Walker, her mother Joanne DeBerry, and grandchildren Audrey Casey, Laine Casey, Drew Casey, Mattie Casey, Dylan Lively, Ava Casey, and Cash Casey.   She will always be loved and will be missed.

 

Visitation will be Wednesday June 12th, 2024, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home at 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. 

 Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, June 13th, 2024 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Terry Monroe officiating.  Burial will follow at Potosi Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Trevor Casey, Chase Lively, Dylan Lively, Hank Casey, Drew Casey, Scott Hudson, Johnny Casey, and Tommy Casey.
