Mary Jane Busby

Mary Jane Slaughter Busby, 93, died Monday, November 21, 2011, at an Abilene medical center. Born in Fort Worth, Texas on November 23, 1917, she was the daughter of Marvel Lillian (Ferguson) and Claude Austin Slaughter. A resident of Abilene most of her life, she graduated from Abilene High School before attending college. Mary Jane married Fred N. Busby on July 6, 1935 in Abilene. She was a homemaker and member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Jimmy Dan Busby and Fred R. Busby; parents; brothers, Claude Slaughter, Jr. and Scotty Slaughter; and sister, Elsie Owens. Mary Jane is survived by two grandchildren, Mary Sue Morledge and Tony Busby; one great-grandson, Spencer Morledge; and one niece, Lynn Heiser. Graveside services were held Wednesday in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
