Mary Bessent

Mary Angeline Vaughan Bessent, 84, of Abilene, TX, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025.

Mary was born on November 16, 1940, in Victoria, TX. She was a beloved wife, mother, friend, and a true beacon of her community. Known for her kindness, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor, she touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Mary dedicated much of her life to serving others, both in her professional and personal endeavors. She gave countless hours to the EMS community, the local food bank she helped found, and was a devoted member of her church. She spent countless hours at Ben Bessent Chevrolet and Robert Lee Care Center where her contributions were deeply valued. As a passionate community volunteer, Mary's commitment to helping others made a lasting impact on many.

Mary is survived by her children, Craig Bessent and wife, Lisa, of Abilene, TX; Randy Bessent and wife, Cindy, of Abilene, TX; and Lisa Myers of Durango, CO. She is survived by one sister Vernay Carrington and husband Tom, two nieces Jennifer, Lindsey and nephew Marcus. She is also survived by her grandchildren, who fondly referred to her as Mimi: BJ Bessent and wife, Rachel; Shaye Anne Atwood and husband, Ross; and Katie Kufeldt and husband, Adam. Mary was a proud great-grandmother to seven: Cody, Cali, Hudson, Knox, Krew, Emma, and Turner.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ben Bessent, and her grandson, Cody Bill Bessent. She is also preceded in death by parents Robert and Pauline Vaughan and her sisters Eileen Watson and Paula Vaughan.

Mary's warmth, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be profoundly missed. There will be visitation available from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Robert Lee Cemetery in Robert Lee Texas.

Mary's legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
