Mary Ann Moore Bauernfeind, 81, of Abilene, passed away on April 11 at her home in Abilene.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday, April 16 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be Monday, April 17 at 10:00 am at Aldersgate Methodist Church with Dustin Wilhite officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Mary was born in Abilene to Delbert and Bea Moore on March 19, 1942. She grew up and attended school in Lueders. She graduated first in her class in 1960. Mary attended Hardin Simmons University and was a member of the Cowgirls organization. She graduated from HSU with a degree in education and began a lifelong career as a teacher and later school counselor.
After a brief marriage, Mary and her children, Brad and Charla faced life together. As a single mother, Mary saw them through many challenges and even while working multiple jobs she obtained her Master's degree in counseling from Hardin Simmons.
She married the love of her life, Roger Bauernfeind on December 27, 1979. They were married for almost forty years. Together they enjoyed many activities, especially traveling. She and Roger made multiple trips to Europe, enjoyed several cruises, and loved their annual trip to Las Vegas. After Roger's passing, Mary continued to travel with her children and grandchildren making trips to Las Vegas and taking several cruises.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Gerrell Moore, and her husband. She is survived by her son Brad Birchum and wife Terri, daughter Charla Birchum-Sims and husband Jack, son Paul Bauernfeind and wife Barbara, and son David Bauernfeind and wife Mary; grandsons Brent Birchum and wife Joy, Bryan Birchum, Jake and Chance Sims; granddaughters Julia and Sarah Bauernfeind; one great-grandson William Birchum. She is also survived by her brother Carl (Pete) Moore, and one sister Jeanette and her husband B.A. Honey as well as numerous other family members.
Pallbearers will be Brent and Bryan Birchum, Jake and Chance Sims, Weston Conder, Blake Forester and Tyler Watson
Memorials may be made to; Meals on Wheels, West Texas Rehabilitation Center or the Abilene Retired Teachers scholarship fund.
