Mary "Gladys" Hall Baucum, 85, passed away quietly Thursday, January 18th. Funeral services, will be Monday, January 22, 2007 at the Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel,
6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., officiated by Dr. Cliff Stewart. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 21, 2007, 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Gladys was born November 3, 1921 to Dee S. Hall and Elizabeth Lepard Hall in Evergreen, Mississippi. After graduating from Evergreen High School, Gladys followed her brother Lawrence Hall and her uncle Bill Lepard to Texas. Gladys worked for a wholesale grocery company in Stamford and Childress, and as a beautician in Abilene and Anson.
Gladys married Erwin Talmadge Baucum in Anson on August 11, 1946. Erwin and Gladys moved to Abilene after Erwin finished his military service in the U.S. Army. They were members of the First Central Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. Gladys and Erwin were avid sport fans, supporting the Abilene High Eagles football team before, during and after their three children attended there. They reserved the same football tickets for over 35 years. After her children were grown, Gladys enjoyed working at Estes House of Fashion for several years.
Gladys was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother known by all for her wonderful cooking. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 ½ years Erwin Baucum, three brothers, Lawrence Hall, Oscar Hall and Clyde Hall and one sister, Purlee Hall Braden. Gladys is survived by her three children and their spouses; Sylvia and Byron Hohenberger of Cooper, Texas, David and Pam Baucum, of Abilene and Tammy and Billy Gray of Buda, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
