Mary Smith Anders, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2008 at the age of 78. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at Wylie Baptist Church, with John Greeson officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Rule Cemetery in Rule, Texas. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. September 2, 1929, Mary was born in Crosbyton, Texas to E.C. Smith and Gladys (Bryant) Smith. She loved watching her grandchildren participate in their sporting events. She was a talented quilter and artist. Mary moved from Rule to Abilene in 1990. She was a member of Wylie Baptist Church. Preceding Mary in death were her parents, her husband Norris Anders in 1989, and her sister, Harvey Jean Evans. She is survived by two sons, Steve Anders and his wife Jami, Bobby Anders and his wife Sammie, all of Abilene; two daughters, Ann Nickell, of Abilene, Tommy Jo Epley and her husband Jerry, of Wichita Falls; two brothers, E.C. Smith, Jr. and his wife Pat, of Austin, Billy Bob Smith and his wife Bea, of Littlerock, Arkansas; five sisters, Wanda Townsend, of Rule, Cathryn Arnold and her husband Rudy, of Midland, Donna McGaughey, of Bangs, Audrey Creswell and her husband Glen, of Dennison, Jackie Pendleton and her husband Sam, of Midlothian; eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made in honor of Mary Anders to the West Texas Rehab Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, Texas 79605.
