Marvine Williams Hogsett died Saturday, May 5, 2007 in a Dallas hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born to Madelyn and Marvin Cook, on the family ranch in Mills County, Texas on July 28, 1934 which was her father's birthday. Marvine grew up in Goldthwaite and graduated from Goldthwaite High School in 1951. Later that year her family moved to Abilene where she met her future husband, Bob Williams. Marvine and Bob were married on November 15, 1952 in her mother's home in Abilene. They moved to Lubbock in 1955 where Bob attended Texas Tech and Marvine worked at the First National Bank of Lubbock. They returned to Abilene to be closer to family shortly before the birth of their first child, Lynda, in 1959. Another daughter, Carman, was born in 1964. Marvine and Bob built a home in Potosi near the Williams family farm in 1964. Shortly afterwards, Bob was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and Marvine cared for him until his death in 1979.
Marvine began her banking career in 1954 at Farmers and Merchants National Bank which later became First National Bank of Abilene (now First Financial Bank). She worked in the customer relations department and thoroughly enjoyed her job because she loved helping people. Marvine was loved and respected by her co-workers and customers. She retired from First National Bank in 1989 after twenty-five years of continuous service. In 1984 Marvine met Charles Hogsett and they were married on December 29th the same year. During their retirement years they enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and most of all, spending time with their five grandchildren. Marvine was a devoted wife and a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. She was a kind and caring person and possessed a strong faith that sustained her through life and her recent illness.
Marvine was a member of Potosi United Methodist Church for more than forty years and served as treasurer as well as a member of the Administrative Board. She was also a member of the Llano Estacada Emmaus Community. Marvine was active in many organizations including the Multiple Sclerosis Society; Key City Squares square dancing club; Los Aficionados, a volunteer organization supporting the Grace Museum; and the Potosi Extension Club where she served as Secretary/Treasurer. Marvine loved people and especially enjoyed spending time with her "bank family" and keeping in touch and attending get togethers with her Goldthwaite High School classmates.
Marvine was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Madelyn Cook; her husband, Bob Williams; an infant son, Robert A. Williams, Jr. and her brother, Thomas Cook. She is survived by her husband, Charles Hogsett; her daughter Lynda and husband, Scott Spinks of Midland; her daughter Carman and husband, David Hamilton of Abilene; her step-son Tim Hogsett and his wife Cathy of Austin; five grandchildren, Mary Catherine and Robert Spinks of Midland, Andrew and Austin Hamilton of Abilene and Holly Hogsett of Austin. She is also survived by three sisters, Mary Drummond of Goldthwaite, Pearl Brown of Dallas, Helen Robnett of Springfield, Missouri; one brother, John Cook of Alexandria, Virginia and her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hogsett of Marble Falls.
Pallbearers will be Scott Spinks, David Hamilton, Robert Spinks, Andrew Hamilton, Austin Hamilton and Tim Hogsett. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Robert Goldston, Scott Dueser, John Randolph and Tom Clark.
A visitation will be held at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from six until eight o'clock. A funeral service, with Reverend Charles Dunnam and Dr. Robert Sledge officiating, will be held at ten o'clock Thursday morning, May 10, 2007 at the Potosi United Methodist Church; burial will follow at the Potosi Cemetery.
