Martha Kren Chapman West, 86 of Hamby, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 in Abilene, Texas.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Tuesday, July 30 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Cameron Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow at the Hamby Cemetery.
Martha was born on November 4, 1937 in Abilene, Texas to Robert “Dude” and Imogene (Neely) Chapman. She was a 1956 graduate of Abilene High School and graduated in 1959 from Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse.
On May 30, 1958, Martha married the love of her life, Sam West in Hamby. They were inseparable for 48 years before his death in 2006. She was a lifelong member of Hamby Methodist Church.
Throughout her nursing career, Martha worked at Hendrick Hospital, Woods Psychiatric Institute, and as a private duty nurse. Most of her working days consisted of helping Sammy out in the farming and ranching operations and raising four children. She was a very loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, and “Ma” to her grands. Martha was a faithful servant of God by serving her church and community. She loved studying her Bible and participated with Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She also volunteered with hospice.
On January 15, 2011, Martha married Harold Landrum. They were married several years before Alzheimer’s complications caused the dissolution of their marriage.
Martha is preceded in death by her husband Sam, parents, in-laws, Herman and Elsie West, one daughter Kelly Marie West, grandson, Larry Wayne West and one brother Charlie Mack Chapman. Martha is survived by her daughter, Kren Willis and husband Brian, of Abilene; three sons, Sam “Button” West, and his wife Felicia, Stan West and his wife, Lori, Cody West, and his wife Tina, all of Hamby; brothers Jack and David Chapman both of Hamby; eight grandchildren, Samantha, Carl, Dusty, Jasmine, Eric, Lindsey, Evan and Oren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Carl, Dusty and Oren West, Eric and Evan Willis, Dustin Rader and Jesse Dominguez.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. D. Allen Schultz and his office, the caring staff at Windcrest Health Center and Interim Hospice.
