Martha Smith Morris, 88, of Abilene, passed away on January 2, 2025 in her home surrounded by family. After a 10 year battle with cancer, she entered her heavenly home and is reunited with her beloved son Don.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2025 at University Church of Christ with Dr. Phil Schubert officiating. The burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Martha was born in Terrell, Texas to Lamon Elmer Smith and Eva Jo McCracken Smith on July 28th 1936. She attended school at Abilene Christian College in 1954. In the fall of her freshman year she met senior, Tommy Morris. The couple married on June 10, 1955 in Terrell Texas, making it 70 years since they first met on the campus of ACC. Martha was a devoted wife and became a loving mother to her four children, Marka, Melinda, Patti and Don. To family and many close friends, Martha is known as "Mur." This name was given to her by her young son Don when attempting to pronounce "mother." What started as a mispronunciation would become the name that embodied this humble yet steadfast family matriarch. Her legacy was centered around her family. Because of her faith in Christ, and devotion to pour herself into each individual, three generations are now rooted in those values she displayed. Mur was truly an earthly vessel of her heavenly calling.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Lamon and Eva Jo Smith, her father and mother-in-law, Don H. and Alberta Morris, and her son Don.
Martha is survived by her husband, Tommy Morris, daughter, Marka Riddle and husband Terry, daughter, Melinda Stewardson and husband Tom, daughter, Patti Ensor and husband Josh, and daughter-in-law, Robyn Morris, sister, Carolyn Shaffer and her husband Bobby. Martha is also survived by her 15 grandchildren and 35 great-grand children.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Monty Felts, Caleb Ensor, Tommy Felts, Steven Ensor, Russell Felts and Mark Motsinger.
