Martha Sue Cole, 85, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020 in Abilene, Texas.
A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 11, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. A graveside service will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery in Russellville, Kentucky at a later date.
Born in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 25, 1934, Martha was the daughter of the late Norma Gladys (Gibson) and Hubert Douglas Jackson. In 1952 she graduated from high school in Russellville, Kentucky, and received her degree in music education from the University of Miami. She taught at Walnut Hill Elementary in Shreveport, Louisiana, for 13 years and three years at Shreveport Christian School. After moving to Abilene in 1999, Martha was a substitute teacher for five years. She was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ in Abilene.
In 1998 Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin Cole, whom she married on May 12, 1957 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Martha is survived by sons, Robert Cole and wife Georganne of Abilene, and James Cole of Jackson, Tennessee; daughter, Sharon Cook and husband Dustin of Heflin, Louisiana; grandchildren, Robyn Cole, Logan Cole and wife Johanna, Robert Acosta, Deirdre Johnson, Braden Cook and Charlene Cook; great-granddaughter, Hazel Cole; and cousin Jennifer Garr.
