Martha Jean Ashton

Martha Jean Ashton of Shep Texas passed away at 80 years of age on March 8, 2018 at Winters Health Residence. She was born in Shep, TX on June 24, 1937. Both of her parents Ruby & Enoch Henson are deceased. She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at the age of 10 & was baptized in Valley Creek in Shep. Her love for teaching Christ's word continued as she taught Sunday school at Phoenix First Assembly of God Church, where she was also a big part of the bus ministry for the underprivileged. Martha loved the Lord & loved to give to others. A word of encouragement & a cheerful smile was something that Martha loved to share. Martha worked at the Abilene Credit Bureau as a Supervisor, retiring at the age of 60 after working there for 30 years. Martha is left with two living children, Robert Ashton who is married to Hope Ashton & Audra Ashton Bass who is married to Jeff Bass. Both children reside in the Dallas Ft. Worth area. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Justin & Jeremy Harendt, Wade & Wesley Ashton, Jennifer Pyle, Brady & Jordan Bass. Martha also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren, Jorja & Nikkole Harendt, JT & Benjamin Leonard. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 pm Saturday March 10, 2018 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Wingate Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Shep Cemetery.
