Marjorie Hendrick Urban, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at the age of 73. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with Dr. Bob Monk, Rev. Bill Libby and Rev. Laird Cross officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday in the chapel at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
August 1, 1933, Marjorie was born the daughter of James Guy Hendrick and Ruby Lucille (McCleskey) Hendrick in Olden, Texas. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. June 1, 1957, Marjorie married Walter Urban at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Abilene, Texas. Walter served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, and during that time, Marjorie took great interest in his career in the Air Force. She taught school in Druex, France.
The family returned to Abilene in 1974. Marjorie taught school at Fair Park Elementary and College Heights Elementary School. She also volunteered in the library and in the music department at Bonham Elementary.
McMurry University was important to Marjorie because of Walter's affiliation with the school for 16 years. She loved her family and was especially close to her grandchildren. Marjorie was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant daughters, Anne Lucille and Lisa Ann, and two sisters, Joyce Howell and Dorthea Hendrick. Marjorie is survived by her husband, Walter Urban of Abilene; one son, Kurt Urban and his wife Debbie, of Abilene; one daughter, Mary Bladel and her husband Lou, of Washington, D.C.; one brother, James Hendrick and his family, of Harker Heights, Texas; one brother-in-law, Clifford Howell and his family; five grandchildren, Amber Urban, Kara Davila, Kerry Davila, Sam Bladel and Joe Bladel; one great-grandchild, Casen Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
