Marilyn Ann Thomas

1952 — May 17, 2014

Marilyn Ann Thomas, 61, of Abilene, Texas passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2014 in Abilene, Texas. Marilyn was just one day shy of her 62nd birthday. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, May 20 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene, Texas. Marilyn was born in Granbury, Texas to Bobbie Dean and Annie Laurie Cuppet on May 18, 1952. She went to school in Granbury and Snyder. She married Alan Thomas on October 1, 1971 in Hill City, Texas. This year, they would have celebrated 43 years of sharing their life and love with each other and all who knew them. Over the years, Marilyn held many jobs, but spent the last 10 years working as the Director of Health Management at Abilene Behavioral Health. She was incredibly passionate and dedicated to her work there and made a profound difference in the lives of so many. She has been a member of the Lord's church for more than 40 years and most recently was a member of Wylie church of Christ in Abilene, Texas. She strove to teach God's word to many children in Bible classes as well as impacted many lives by how she lived out her faith. There are simply not enough words available to capture the absolute beauty of the heart of Marilyn Thomas. This is what's true. There are few people in this world who lived with such a genuine selflessness and giving spirit. She lived and loved wholeheartedly and entirely, giving of herself completely, regardless of the circumstances. She worked so hard to ensure a happy life for those she cared about most and did so with such a gracious and humble heart. Among the many gifts she gave to her family was her quiet, powerful strength that held them together during difficult times and uplifted them in the good times. Her dedication to providing a Christ-centered home full of love, support and endless encouragement is reflected in the lives of her family. She was an amazing mom, wife, grandmother, daughter-in-law, aunt, and friend. Marilyn is preceded in death by her father, Bobbie Dean Cuppet; her mother, Annie Laurie Cuppet, and her brother, Robert Dean Cuppet. She is survived by her husband, Alan Thomas; her son, Darby Thomas and daughter-in-law Stephanie; her daughter Sheri Hemby and son-in-law Chris; her daughter Jodi Thomas; her grandchildren: Dawnn, Anniston, Stephen and Amanda. She is also survived by two nephews, a niece and several cousins. Honorary pallbearers will be: Warren Harkins, Dale Harkins, John Harkins, Eric Gutschke, Tim Channell, Aaron Cuppet, and Brian Cuppet. Donations may be given in her honor to West Texas Rehab Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605.
