Marilyn Smith

June 21, 1950 — August 5, 2023

Marilyn June Smith, 73, of Abilene, passed away on August 5, 2023, following a brief illness.

Visitation will be at 10AM, Wednesday August 9th at First Methodist Church, 202 Butternut Street, Abilene. The funeral service will follow at 11AM with Senior Pastor Scott Seymour officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home.

Marilyn was born in Abilene to Truett and LaVerne Lambert on June 21st, 1950. She went to school at Hawley and then earned a Bachelor's degree from McMurry University and a Master's degree from Abilene Christian University. She married her loving husband Tom K. Smith on July 10th, 1971, at First Methodist Church in Abilene. They shared 52 years together and had three sons. She worked for many years as an educator in AISD and for the Region 14 service center. She was also a long-time member of First Methodist Church.

Marilyn was a devoted and loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents Truett and LaVerne. She is survived by her husband Tom; sons Paul, Mark and David and their spouses Tera, Michelle and Blair; her sister Peggy Morris and her husband Gary; and her seven grandchildren Makenna, Micah, Mailey Kay, Hayden, Kelton, Luke, and Brooke. Marilyn also had several nieces and nephews and cousins that she cared for deeply, as well as some close friends.

Memorials may be given to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF.org

Our family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the ICU staff at Hendrick Medical Center North in Abilene.
