Marian G. DeBerry, 86, of Abilene, passed away on May 27, 2021, in Odessa.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Beltway Church (South) in the Chapel with the Mike Harkrider of Wylie Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene at 1:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Marian was born in Hutchinson, Kansas to Herbert and Linda Janzen on October 16, 1934. She went to school at Hutchinson Kansas. She graduated from Buhler high school, and then went on to get an Associates Degree from Hutchison Junior College. While working on her degree, she married Kenneth James DeBerry on November 4, 1954, in Hutchinson. Ken completed Junior College in 1955. In preparation for the move to Norman, Oklahoma, where Marian and Ken lived while he completed his Petroleum Engineering program at Oklahoma University. Shortly after, Marian and Ken loaded the family and everything they owned into the family sedan, and without a job lined up, headed south traveling from snow covered Liberal Kansas to balmy Corpus Christi, Texas in search of a job and to settle down to raise a family. Marian and Ken soon acclimatized to south Texas life, eating lots of shrimp and barbequing every weekend with the neighbors. Soon they settled in Abilene where Ken continued his career, until retirement, while Marian began a career as a burgeoning artist, producing hundreds of wonderful paintings and works of art of many kinds demonstrating her creative side, winning many awards, which continued until the day she died.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth DeBerry, father and mother, son Jim, daughter-in-law Debbie, and grandsons Tyler and Brent. She is survived by daughter Sandy and her husband John, son Tom and his wife Kathy. Also, Marian has 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Shortes, Dave Parker, Travis DeBerry, Tanner DeBerry, Larry Turner, Gary Young
Memorials may be given to Abilene Boys Ranch or Abilene Rehab Center.
