Ms. Margaret Johnson, 87, passed from this life on Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Abilene, Texas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4515 South 14th Street in Abilene, with Rev. Chris Turner and Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Burial will follow the service in Iberis Cemetery near Abilene in Taylor County, Texas.
Margaret Johnson was born December 23, 1927 in Goss, Louisiana to the late Mr. Rufus Johnson and Mrs. Georgie (Dorsey) Johnson. Margaret spent her early years in Louisiana. She later relocated with her daughter to Dallas, Texas where she began working at Borden’s Foods. She would later retire and spend her time with her family and friends. In 1992 she once again relocated, this time to Odessa, Texas where she would become active in Cumberland Presbyterian Church. This is where she met her beloved friends, The Spragins, with their daughter Rachel becoming like her own. She later relocated to Abilene, Texas to be near her great-grandchildren. This was her final earthly home.
Margaret was preceded in death by both parents and sisters, Ella Johnson and Virginia (Johnson) James.
Margaret is survived by one daughter, Cherie Bishop of Abilene, and one daughter in heart, Rachel Spragins of Odessa. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Vishia Wilson of Abilene and Christopher Johnson of Abilene; and two great-grandchildren, Jorrian Moses and Gabriel Moses of Abilene, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
