Jayne Cummings, age 82, of Abilene, Texas met her savior on December 31, 2022 in Abilene, Texas.
Visitation will be 5pm-7pm on Friday, January, 6th at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Memorial Services will be 2pm on Saturday, January 7th at Rise Church, 517 North Pioneer, with Reverend Ken Lyle of Hendrick Hospice officiating.
Jayne was born in San Angelo, Texas to Margaret Kemp and Sidney Shipley on April 2, 1940. She graduated from Christoval High School as valedictorian and Odessa College. She was a cheerleader and basketball player while in high school. She married Dan Lake Cummings on January 29, 1966. In her early career she worked in banking and later as a dental assistant for Dr. John Baker, but her greatest and most-loved career was that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In years past Jayne served in her church as a leader for Girls in Action Vacation Bible School and youth.
Jayne was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Ada Beth, Joe Sid and Don.
Jayne is survived by her husband, Dan; daughter, Susan Wade; son, Scott Cummings and wife, Denise; daughter Dayna Dorn and husband David; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Jayne was known to many as she never met a stranger and reached out to those whom others would shun. She demonstrated Christ's love each day as she quietly served the Lord by extending kindness, words of wisdom, encouragement and a home that was always open with a meal or snack to be shared. Jayne listened like no other and most recently was an encourager for the men of Rise Discipleship Home. She shared conversation with them and encouragement on their journeys to sobriety and freedom in Christ. She enjoyed and ministered to her friends at the Rose Park Senior Citizen Center. Jayne always sought out those who were at their table alone, struck a conversation and made a new friend. As Mother Teresa once said, "I just do little things with great love". She stood for the Lord in grace and gratitude even as she battled cancer. Jayne continued to counsel, encourage and pray for others, including her caregivers and family, until the end of her life here on earth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Jayne Cummings to Rise Discipleship Home at www.risehome.org or 517 North Pioneer Drive, Abilene, Texas 79603. Jayne's family would like to extend our sincere thanks to Hendrick Hospice and caregivers, Stephanie and Sharon.
Sweet Jayne, Mother, Momma, Mom and MeeMoo, our hearts have never felt such pain but we are so thankful for what you taught us about unconditional love through Christ and know that you have a crown fit for a queen in heaven.
