Our beloved Marcia Joy Mears, 56, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Devona (Berry) and Edwin Muckleroy, Joy was born on December 16, 1952 in Burnett, Texas, and graduated from Abilene High School. Forty-six years ago, she moved from Comanche, Texas to Abilene where she married Carl Douglas Mears on June 16, 1972. She was a professional independent insurance adjuster and a member of Wylie United Methodist Church in Abilene.
Her father and two brothers, Barney Muckleroy and Guy Muckleroy, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Mears of Abilene; children, Tonya Doby and husband, Chuck, of Abilene, Blake Mears and wife, Adrienne, of Abilene, and Paul Mears and wife, Becky, of Round Rock; and grandson, Zachary Lewis of Lubbock, Texas. Joy is also survived by her mother, Devona Burns and husband, Bill, of Abilene, and two brothers, Jeff Muckleroy of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Pat Muckleroy of Lufkin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, with Rev. Jeff Hatcher officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
She was a light in everyone's life that she touched and was always a joy to be around. She was a mother to all who met her, a loving wife, and wonderful daughter.
We love you so very much, and you will be so greatly missed in our lives.
