Marcella Jean Ramey

Marcella "Jean" Ramey, 88, of Abilene, went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 5, 2017 in Abilene. Visitation will be 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Abilene. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, December 8, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home with Billy Sellers of Clyde officiating. Burial will follow at Drummond Cemetery in View. Jean was born in Slaton, Texas to Howard and Minnie Purkey on June 28, 1929. She went to school in San Angelo, Texas where she graduated. She worked and retired from Civil Service Finance with Dyess, AFB. She was involved with the Military Wives Club, ABWA, Girls Scouts with her children, and with Social Ministries of Abilene. She lived in the View community for over 20 years where she was involved with View Baptist Church and the loving community of View. She loved being around her family and laughing. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Minnie Purkey; son, Justin Allan Ray; son-in-law, Wendell Grant; and sister, Inez Louise Major. Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Kelly Bendickson and husband Ken of Joice, Iowa; daughter, Kristina Grant of Abilene; four grandchildren, Michelle Hurick and husband Kurt of Abilene, Misty Grant and husband James of Abilene, Dawn Arispe and husband Doug of Iowa, and Monica Overgaard and husband Ryan of Iowa; two step-grandchildren: Derek Bendickson of Iowa and Daniell Vanhoosier and husband Alex of Iowa; three great-grandsons; and five great-granddaughters. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer's Association of Abilene or Toys for Tots in the spirit of the season and her love of children.
