Malinda Calhoun, 51, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas on May 6, 1958, Malinda was the daughter of Bobbie (Musgrave) and Zearl Gilbreath, Jr. She married Terry Calhoun on October 24, 1991, in Wichita Falls, and moved from Iowa Park, Texas to Abilene in 1993. She and her husband were house parents at Hendrick Home for Children. Malinda was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.
A daughter, a granddaughter, daughter in law, mother, a sister, an aunt, a cousin, a niece, a Maw-Maw, a beloved friend, and first and foremost a devoted wife to Terry Calhoun, Malinda Calhoun is survived by daughter, Mandi Hughes and her husband Jason; sons Kent Mills, Brian Calhoun and his wife Michelle, John Calhoun and his wife Tracy and daughters, Cynthia Kennedy, Tiffany Lynch, Shelly Roberts, Latoya Morgan, Tamika Sanchez, Krystal Elzey, Stephanie Helgren, Mellissa Griffith, Latara Turner, Mandy Fettis, Valerie Coston, Krista Mallard, Ana Landini, Pamela Mays, Scarlett Flores, Hannah Nehring, Nancy Welch, Ashley Sandusky, Bianca Parker, Talisha Grooms, Myisha Carrion, Tiffany Henry, Cameran Broyles, Olyvia Jackson, Alexis Garren, Samantha Reynolds, Lorien Dodge, Heather Humphrey, Keoshia Grigsby, Mary Fraiser, Angela Humphrey, Rebecca Farrar, Ashley Graves, Kimberly Brady, Lori Camp, and Alicia Carrillo. Malinda was the loving Maw-Maw to 23 grandbabies. She also leaves her brothers, Zearl Gilbreath, III and his wife Sherri, Tom Gilbreath and his wife Debbie, and Daniel Gilbreath, as well as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who know, in Malinda's book, you are family.
Malinda epitomizes the term Jack of All Trades. A seamstress, scrap-booker, photographer, cake decorator, a do-it-yourselfer, grab yourself up by your boot straps go getter! No printed word could possibly describe the multitudes of lives Malinda transformed through her generous, all encompassing, gracious, selfless and compassionate love, for any, and every-one whoever had the truly good fortune of knowing or even meeting Malinda Kay Calhoun.
The funeral services were held Saturday, May 30th, at Southern Hills Church of Christ in Abilene with Phil Ware officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
