Malcolm Delvin Brown

Malcolm Delvin Brown, 94, of Abilene, passed away on April 19, 2021. He was born on June 29, 1926 in Golden, TX. He was one of six children of Horace Edward and Georgia Elizabeth Massie Brown. He graduated from Golden High School and also attended Draughon's Business College in Dallas, TX. He later served in the United States Navy during WWII. After military duty, Malcolm received a BA degree from East Texas Baptist University. He also graduated form Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX, earning a Master of Divinity degree and a Master of Religious Education degree. On August 8, 1947, he married JoAnn McKinney in Carthage, TX. In additional to pastoring churches throughout the state of Texas, he served as Chaplain at the Avinger Field U.S. Air Force Base in Sweetwater from 1963 until its closure. He was Director of Missions for the Sweetwater-Mitchell-Scurry Baptist Association from 1968 until his retirement in 1988. After retirement, he served as Chaplain for Marketplace Ministries until 2005. Malcolm was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bruce, Melvin, and Horace Jr. Brown and one sister, Margie Whitus; along with his wife, JoAnn, of 62 years. He is survived by his two sons: Dr. Anthony Brown and wife Diane of Oklahoma, and David Brown and wife Judy of Abilene. Also survived by grandchildren: Elizabeth, Cameron, Rebekah, Taylor, and Michael; and great-grandchildren, Anderson and Edith; as well as sister, Peggy Conner of Groveton, TX. Visitation will be this Thursday evening, April 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 23, at 10:00 am at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater, TX. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home in Abilene. Memorials may be made to the Primetimers of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 S.
