Charles Caldwell, 94, of Abilene, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, in Athens, TX. He was born in Jackson, TN on November 2, 1928 to John Eli and Irene (Watt) Caldwell.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 15, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.
Charles graduated from Northside High in Jackson, TN in 1946. He married Mary Martinez on December 20, 1949, in Desoto County, MI. Charles joined the United States Air Force, and served 22 years until his retirement on August 31, 1969. Charles graduated with his bachelor’s degree of general studies from the University of Nebraska in 1968. After his retirement, he briefly taught at Madison Jr. High, from 1974-1975. He went on to further his education, received a Master of Education Degree from Hardin Simmons University in 1975, and also attending the Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater in 1976. Charles and his wife, Mary, were members of Baker Heights Church of Christ, and later Wylie Church of Christ.
Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 2015; his parents, John and Irene Caldwell; and his four brothers, Rupert Caldwell, John W.F. Caldwell, Robert Caldwell, and Kenneth Caldwell.
He is survived by his daughter, Claudine Beltz and husband Douglas of Albuquerque, NM; son, Charles Caldwell, Jr. of Jackson, TN; daughter, Janet Neidholt and husband Johnny of Alba, TX; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and his brother, Luther David Caldwell and wife Brenda.
