Magen Michelle Jones, 17, died Friday, May 4, 2012, at her residence.
Born in Palestine, Texas on April 6, 1995, Magen was the daughter of Belinda Kay (Crawford) and Carlos Jones. A junior at Wylie High School, she attended school in Clyde, Texas, for seven years before moving to Abilene three years ago. Magen was enrolled in dual credit classes at Wylie High School and Cisco Junior College. She played the flute in the Wylie High School Pure Gold Honors Band for three years.
Her dream was to attend college and study cultural languages. She could already speak Spanish and German, and had studied several other languages. In 2009, she was honored to be a People to People Student Ambassador to Europe, traveling in her favorite countries Italy and Austria, as well as in France, Switzerland and Germany. She met with various government officials and attended school in Austria. One of the highlights of her trip was attending the Mozart Concerto in Vienna, Austria.
Magen's favorite past times were reading and music. Most any time she could be found listening to music or reading a book. She loved most any kind of music including rock, country, classical and Christian music, especially Christian rock. She also loved baking, especially her famous cheesecakes.
Throughout all of her youth, she lived and breathed softball. Magen loved to hunt with her Daddy and Papa Jay. She absolutely loved spending time with her two Labs, Tucker and Lily.
She attended Beltway Baptist Church, as well as Southern Hills Church of Christ in Abilene.
Magen is survived by her parents, Carlos and Belinda Jones; brother, Adam and Kelsie; sister, Christy; sister, Laura and Jerrel; and niece and nephew, Cassidy and Clay.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Beltway Park Baptist Church, 4009 Beltway South, with Pastors David McQueen and Randy Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Buffalo Gap Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
