Mae Barber Taylor, 90, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 30, 2005 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday December 31, 2005 at the Bible Chapel, with Quanah Jobe and Robert Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mae was born October 3, 1915 in Brownfield, Texas to Alonzo Newell Barber and Ela Brown Barber. She attended school in Brownfield and on February 5, 1935 she married Travis Austin Taylor in Lubbock, Texas. Mae and her husband moved from Sweetwater to Abilene in 1964. They were both founding members of Bible Chapel. She was a past member of the Women's Missionary Council (WMC). She was considered the world's best cook and babysitter by her family. She was also an immaculate housekeeper.
Mae was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband Travis in 1997, two brothers, Maldon & Lonnie Barber, and two sisters, Jan Bishop and Lillian Nolen.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Woods and her husband Pastor Don Woods of Abilene, Linda Brookreson and her husband Larry of Buffalo Gap; one brother, Johnny Barber and his wife Kathryn of Abilene; four grandchildren, Taylor Woods and his wife Stephanie, Brooke Crow and her husband Heath, Brandi Schatte and her husband Chris, and Brayden Brookreson and his wife Hannelore; four great grandchildren, Lindsey, Laura and Hannebelle, daughters of Heath and Brooke Crow, and Trey, son of Brandi and Chris Schatte. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Taylor Woods, Brayden Brookreson, Heath Crow, Chris Schatte, Ted Barber and Joe Bolin will serve as pallbearers.
