Mable Dewbre Alvord, age 87, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Iown (Wright) and Odus Dewbre, she was born on July 22, 1923 in Holder, Brown County, Texas, and graduated from high school in Comanche, Texas. She was a longtime resident of Abilene where Mable and her husband, David, owned and operated Malone Safe and Lock Company for 34 years. Mable was the only lady locksmith in Abilene at that time. She was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.
Mable was preceded in death by her husband, David Alvord; her parents; and two brothers, Maurice of the Houston area and Norman of Brownwood.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Ammie and Tommy Clark of Abilene, and her extended family and caretaker, Janet Lyons.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 14, in May Cemetery in May, Texas with Pastor Roy Meksch officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
