Morice Johnie “Son” Chance Sr., 96, quietly went to sleep in the arms of Jesus on Thursday morning, September 10, 2015 at Hendrick Medical Center. Services will be at 12:00 P.M. Saturday September 19 at the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew Lubin officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
M.J. Chance Sr. was born in Lodi, Texas. He was married to the late Birdie “Honey Pie” Chance. He was drafted in 1944 to the United States Army during World War II. After two years in service, he returned to Marshall and moved his family to Abilene, Texas in 1952. He worked for Foremost Dairies for 25 years and Citizens National Bank (Bank of America) for almost 10 years until his retirement.
Mr. Chance was preceded in death by his parents, Johnie and Leola Chance Sr.; wife of 63 years, Birdie Chance; his daughter, Frances “Polly” Chance; granddaughter, Yolanda Hill; and three brothers. He is survived by his children, Bobbie Jean Chance and Maurice J. Chance Jr. (Shirley); six grandchildren, Timmie Williams and Tina Williams, Vuree Williams Jr, Maurice Chance III (Patrice), Adrian Chance (Natasha), and Regina Chance Day (Worth); seventeen great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
